The Open Standard for the Global Automotive Ecosystem

OpenCar

The common language that allows websites, apps, and hardware to talk to one another. Ensuring automotive culture—in all its forms—thrives in a connected world.

Section 01 Our Philosophy

A "Big Tent" for Car Culture

OpenCar is a non-discriminatory, open-standards collective dedicated to the digital future of the automotive industry. We do not discriminate. If it has wheels and a community, OpenCar is built to support it.

The Aftermarket

Performance tuning, aesthetic mods, and restoration.

Grassroots Enthusiasts

Local meetups, takeovers, and community garage nights.

Corporate & Industry

Professional drives, manufacturer launches, and dealership logistics.

Off-Road & Adventure

Standardizing trails, overlanding, and rock-crawling data.

Business & Commerce

Streamlining how parts, services, and vehicle data are exchanged.

What We Do

Breaking Silos with Open Standard Formats

Modern automotive platforms exist in silos—data from one app doesn't work in another. OpenCar publishes open standards so that:

01

Events are Discoverable

An event posted on a local forum can be seamlessly read by a navigation app or social discovery tool.

02

Data is Universal

Vehicle specs, part fitments, and venue requirements use a single, unified syntax.

03

Innovation is Accessible

Small developers and large corporations alike can build on a shared, professional foundation.

Section 02 Our Standards

Open Specifications

Each standard is developed openly on GitHub. Contributions and feedback are welcome.

OC-EVENT

0.0.1

As the automotive aftermarket and enthusiast communities move toward a digital-first ecosystem, the lack of a unified "Event Language" has led to data silos. OC-EVENT 1.0 provides a universal syntax for describing any automotive gathering—from grassroots "Takeovers" to high-level "Corporate Drives"—ensuring that a user can discover, join, and navigate to an event regardless of the platform they use.

Section 04 Get Involved

Governance & Neutrality

OpenCar is governed by its members—the people who own and build the automotive web. We follow a consensus-based process modeled after international standards (ISO) so no single entity controls the format. We are not married to any single segment of the industry. Our goal is to build the "pipes" that allow the entire industry to flow more efficiently.

Join the Movement

We are looking for website owners, app developers, and industry leaders to help shape these standards.
